Overview
Advanced Training Lab is an indoor interactive play and game area at the exit of Mission: SPACE in EPCOT.
The space includes a mix of digital games, team challenges and a children’s play area, all themed around space exploration and astronaut training.
Activities include racing rockets towards Mars, virtually flying over the Martian surface, creating video postcards and taking part in the Mission: SPACE Race team game.
You do not need to ride Mission: SPACE to visit the Advanced Training Lab. It can be accessed separately through the Mission: SPACE Cargo Bay shop.
There is no height requirement for the attraction as a whole, no ride vehicle and no restraint. Wheelchair and ECV users can remain in their mobility device throughout the main interactive areas.
Queue Details
There is no conventional queue.
Guests move freely around the different activity stations and can choose which games or displays they want to use.
The attraction is located indoors at the exit of Mission: SPACE, but you can enter without riding by going through the Mission: SPACE Cargo Bay shop and continuing through to the post-show area.
The main floor is step-free and suitable for wheelchairs and ECVs.
Individual games can attract small groups of people, so you may occasionally need to wait for a screen or control station to become available rather than joining one continuous queue.
Transfer Info
There is no general transfer requirement.
Wheelchair and ECV users can remain in their mobility device while exploring the main interactive areas and using any controls that are within reach.
The children’s Space Base play structure includes climbing and crawling elements designed for children who can physically use the tubes and play equipment. Those elements are separate from the main floor activities, so using the climbing structure is not required to experience the rest of Advanced Training Lab.
There is no ride vehicle, restraint or moving platform.

Sensory Experience
What do these sensory tags mean?
- Flashing Lights
- Flashing, strobing or rapidly pulsing light effects are used.
Sensory experiences vary between people. These tags describe elements that may be present, not how strongly any individual guest will experience them.
Advanced Training Lab is a bright indoor environment filled with digital screens, electronic games and space-themed displays.
Several activities use animated graphics, flashing game elements and changing imagery on screens.
Electronic sound effects, game noises and voices can overlap when multiple activities are being used at once, particularly when the area is busy.
The Mission: SPACE Race game can become louder and more energetic as teams compete against each other.
The children’s play area can also add general noise and movement from children climbing and playing nearby.
There is no physical ride movement, darkness, water, wind or 3D effect.
Practical Tips
You can visit Advanced Training Lab without committing to Mission: SPACE, which makes it useful if other people in your group are riding while you would rather skip the simulator.
The different activities are independent of each other, so there is no required order and you can simply ignore any game that does not interest you.
Mission: SPACE Race works best when there are enough people to form teams on both sides, so a quieter visit can sometimes mean waiting for another group to join in.
Because it is indoors and air-conditioned, it can also be a useful place to spend some time when you want a break from the heat or rain without sitting completely still.
Apparently NASA’s training programme now includes touchscreen games and sending video postcards. The astronaut selection process has become considerably friendlier.
