Park Overview

Disney’s Animal Kingdom combines rides and shows with animal habitats, walking trails and conservation experiences. The park is organised around areas including The Oasis, Discovery Island, Africa, Asia, Pandora – The World of Avatar, Theater in the Wild and Conservation Station.

The park involves substantial walking or wheeling, and some routes are deliberately designed with textured or irregular-looking surfaces to suit the themed environments. Public routes are generally step-free, but distances between areas can be significant and some pathways become congested around major attractions, show exits and bridges. Animal trails and outdoor experiences can also involve long periods in the heat with varying levels of shade. Attraction boarding requirements vary, so check individual attraction pages for detailed wheelchair access, transfer and sensory information.

Getting There & Leaving

How to reach the park, what the arrival actually involves, and what to expect when it’s time to head home.

Your journey to the park The main ways you’ll get from where you’re staying to the park entrance.

Disney Resort hotel → Disney bus → Animal Kingdom entrance

Driving or rideshare → Animal Kingdom parking/drop-off area → park entrance

Staying On-Site Disney Resort buses

Disney Resort buses are the main complimentary transport option from Disney hotels to Animal Kingdom; there is no monorail or Skyliner service to the park.

Wheelchair and ECV users can remain in their mobility device on Disney buses. The driver uses the accessible rear-door ramp/lift, the device rolls aboard and is secured in a designated mobility space. Most buses can accommodate up to two mobility devices, and ECV users are encouraged to transfer to a regular seat if they are able.

Because Animal Kingdom is more isolated from the other Disney parks and Resort areas, check the My Disney Experience app rather than assuming there will be a direct route from every destination. Some journeys around Walt Disney World may require a change of transport.

Driving & Parking Parking costs, accessible parking and the route in

Animal Kingdom has its own parking area directly outside the park, with no separate transport hub between the car park and entrance.

Standard parking: $35 per day for a car or motorcycle. Preferred parking: $50, $55 or $60 depending on date. Oversized vehicles: $40. One Disney theme-park parking payment is valid at all four Walt Disney World theme parks for the day.

Guests with a valid disability parking permit can use the Disability Parking Lot, which is positioned a shorter distance from the entrance. Standard parking charges still apply.

Courtesy trams serve the regular parking areas. If someone needs to remain in a wheelchair or ECV, use the accessible parking route rather than relying on the tram to transport the mobility device.

Rideshare & Off-Site Uber, Lyft, taxis and hotel shuttles

Uber, Lyft, taxis and off-site shuttles can use the transport areas outside Animal Kingdom, so there is no additional TTC-style journey before reaching the park.

A standard rideshare vehicle will normally require a wheelchair user to transfer into the car and the mobility device to be stored if the vehicle can accommodate it. If remaining in the wheelchair is necessary, arrange an appropriate wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

Accessible Minnie Vans can accommodate two mobility devices and allow guests to remain in their wheelchair or ECV during the journey.

If using an off-site hotel shuttle, check both its wheelchair boarding arrangement and its return timetable. A shuttle being advertised as available does not necessarily mean it can carry every type of mobility device.

Leaving at Night Closing-time crowds, pickups and getting back

Animal Kingdom’s transport area is directly outside the park, so leaving is generally simpler than at Magic Kingdom. Disney buses, rideshare pickups, hotel shuttles and the parking areas are all reached from the main entrance.

Disney buses can become busy around park closing. Most buses have space for up to two wheelchairs or ECVs, so a guest using a mobility device may need to wait for another vehicle if those spaces are already occupied.

If using an off-site shuttle, pay particular attention to the final collection time. Animal Kingdom often closes earlier than the other Disney theme parks, and an evening elsewhere at Walt Disney World can leave you without a simple direct route back to the Animal Kingdom parking area.

Rideshare demand can rise sharply at closing, so check the designated pickup point before requesting the vehicle and allow a little extra time for it to reach you.

Accessibility & Planning

Practical information to help you plan your day and know what support and facilities are available around the park.

Guest Services

Guest Relations is available near the main entrance and can help with accessibility information, ticket questions and upgrades, Lost and Found, separated guest assistance and general park support. Disney’s Guest Experience Team can also be found around the park and can help with day-of-visit questions, My Disney Experience, wait times and general guidance. Disability Access Service (DAS) registration is handled through Disney’s Accessibility Services rather than being completed in person at Guest Relations.

Mobility & Rentals

Manual wheelchairs and ECVs are available to rent at Garden Gate Gifts near the park entrance on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted and availability is limited.

Manual wheelchairs currently cost $12 per day, or $10 per day with an eligible multi-day Length of Stay rental. ECVs cost $65 per day with a refundable $20 deposit. Guests must be at least 18 years old and provide photo ID to rent either type. Disney wheelchairs have a maximum stated weight of 350 lb and ECVs 450 lb.

Rental wheelchairs and ECVs cannot be removed from the destination where they were issued. If park hopping, return the device and keep the receipt; another wheelchair or ECV can be collected at the next Disney park without paying the daily rental charge again, subject to availability.

Quiet & Low-Sensory Spaces

Animal Kingdom does not have dedicated sensory rooms, but several locations may offer somewhere to take a break when you need some downtime. These include areas throughout Discovery Island; around Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!; throughout Maharajah Jungle Trek and along the pathway beside Caravan Road towards Africa; throughout Conservation Station; and around Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.

First Aid and quick-service restaurant seating during quieter periods are also suggested. These are places where guests may be able to take a break rather than guaranteed quiet zones, so animal activity, entertainment, weather and crowd levels can all affect the environment.

First Aid & Medical Support

First Aid is located on Discovery Island, behind Creature Comforts near the bridge towards Africa. Nurses are available during normal park operating hours and can provide basic assistance including over-the-counter medication, bandages and other first-aid support.

First Aid can also refrigerate medication, provide sharps-disposal containers and hold certain medical equipment. Its facilities provide additional space and privacy for personal care, with exam tables and large cots that can be used as adult changing surfaces. If further medical treatment is needed, Disney can arrange additional healthcare support through its AdventHealth services.

Lockers & Storage

Keyless lockers are available near the main park entrance, just inside the entrance area, for all-day rental on a first-come, first-served basis.

Animal Kingdom offers small lockers measuring 12 × 10 × 17 inches for $10 per day and large lockers measuring 15.5 × 13 × 17 inches for $12 per day.

Kali River Rapids also has attraction-specific lockers, but those are separate from the all-day entrance lockers and are intended for belongings while riding.

Accessible & Companion Restrooms

Accessible restrooms are available throughout Animal Kingdom, alongside single-stall companion restrooms that provide additional space and privacy for guests who need assistance from a companion or caregiver.

Companion restrooms are located at Mombasa Marketplace, Pandora – The World of Avatar, Maharajah Jungle Trek, Expedition Everest, Harambe Theatre, Flame Tree Barbecue, Conservation Station and Satu’li Canteen.

Additional accessible restroom locations include the main entrance, Oasis, Pizzafari, Theater in the Wild, Anandapur Theater, Gorilla Falls/Harambé areas and other locations throughout the park. Guests who need additional space for personal care or an adult changing surface can use First Aid on Discovery Island, where large cots are available.

Practical accessibility

Africa combines broad outdoor paths with narrower and busier sections around Harambe Village, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Festival of the Lion King. Surfaces and routes are step-free, but crowds around attraction entrances, dining locations and entertainment can make manoeuvring slower.

Restrooms and companion restrooms are available around Harambe, including at Mombasa Marketplace and Harambe Theatre. The Wildlife Express Train to Conservation Station boards from Harambe, so allow extra time if Conservation Station is part of your plans.

Practical accessibility

Asia covers a large outdoor area stretching between the central park routes, Maharajah Jungle Trek, Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest. Main guest routes are step-free, although distances can be significant and some areas around attraction entrances become crowded.

Restrooms and companion restrooms are available near Maharajah Jungle Trek and Expedition Everest. A designated service-animal relief area is beside the Maharajah Jungle Trek restrooms. The animal-trail areas and paths away from the major attraction entrances can sometimes provide a quieter pace than the main thoroughfares.

Conservation Station

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

Conservation Station is separate from the main walking areas of Animal Kingdom and can only be reached using the Wildlife Express Train from Harambe in Africa. Allow extra travel time for the train journey in both directions rather than treating this as a quick detour.

From the train station, the path to Conservation Station slopes downhill. This means the return journey back to the train is uphill.

The main guest areas at Conservation Station are accessible, with restrooms and a companion restroom available. A designated service-animal relief area is beside the entrance.

Conservation Station currently includes Animal Care, Jumping Junction and Bluey’s Wild World, so the atmosphere can vary from quieter exhibit spaces to much livelier music and group activity around the Bluey experience.

Discovery Island

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

The main approach into Discovery Island slopes uphill, so the route can require a little more effort when arriving from the park entrance and surrounding areas.

Discovery Island sits at the centre of the park, so most journeys between lands pass through it. Paths around the Tree of Life are step-free, but the main bridges and routes can become crowded as guests move between Africa, Asia, Pandora and the park entrance.

The Discovery Island Trails around the Tree of Life can provide a slower-paced alternative to the busiest through-routes. A companion restroom is available at Flame Tree Barbecue, and First Aid is also located on Discovery Island. A designated service-animal relief area is near First Aid.

Pandora – The World of Avatar

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

The main entrance into Pandora is on a slight uphill slope. It is not especially steep, but it is noticeable if you are self-propelling a wheelchair or managing an ECV.

Pandora has step-free guest routes, but its winding paths, detailed environment and heavy crowds around Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey can make the area slower to navigate at busy times.

Restrooms and companion restrooms are available within Pandora, including facilities at Satu’li Canteen. A designated service-animal relief area is on the path beside Satu’li Canteen. Some of the paths away from the two main attraction entrances can provide more space for a break from the busiest parts of the land.

The Oasis forms the leafy route between the park entrance and Discovery Island. Its winding paths are step-free, but some routes are narrower than the main paths elsewhere in the park and can feel more enclosed when guests are arriving or leaving.

The vegetation and animal exhibits can make this a calmer introduction to the park than the busier entrance plaza. Restrooms are available within The Oasis, with additional facilities near the main entrance.

Theater in the Wild

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

The areas around Theater in the Wild can be useful for taking a break from busier parts of the park. The space around Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! can provide somewhere to pause away from heavier guest traffic.

Restrooms are available at Theater in the Wild. The surrounding former DinoLand area is currently being redeveloped into Tropical Americas, which is due to open in 2027, so construction walls, noise and nearby walking routes may change while work continues. Check the My Disney Experience app or onsite signage for the current route if construction affects this part of the park.
