Earl the Squirrel Is Joining Universal’s Christmas Parade — But Not Until December
Universal’s resident Christmas squirrel is getting a promotion. Earl is becoming a giant parade balloon, although he’s making a fairly substantial detour through New York before arriving in Orlando.
Universal has confirmed that the balloon will debut in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on 26 November 2026, then join Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s at Universal Studios Florida in early December.
A squirrel with a taste for Christmas lights
If you haven’t met Earl before, his story began with a real squirrel discovered in Universal’s Christmas tree. According to Universal, it had a particular fondness for taking blue Christmas lights back to its nest. Festive decorating is clearly a matter of personal interpretation.
The balloon version will wear a winter cap and carry a blue Christmas light, keeping that slightly chaotic origin story intact.
What does this mean for your visit?
The important distinction is the timing. Universal’s holiday season begins on 14 November, but Earl’s balloon is not joining the Orlando parade from opening day. Universal’s announcement gives early December rather than an exact first performance date.
If the balloon is a must-see for your trip, wait for a confirmed Orlando debut date before building a day around it. The New York appearance and the Universal Studios Florida appearance are two separate dates, not interchangeable announcements.
For parade viewing, think about where you’ll watch and how you’ll leave afterwards, especially if you use a wheelchair or need room to move away from a crowd. Ask a Team Member about the arrangements for your performance; the balloon announcement does not confirm any changes to accessible viewing.
