Park Overview

Universal Islands of Adventure is organised around Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Skull Island: Reign of Kong, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, Seuss Landing and The Lost Continent. The Lost Continent is currently undergoing phased closure and redevelopment, with large sections behind construction walls and facilities changing as work progresses.

The park combines major roller coasters and thrill rides with dark rides, water attractions, family rides, walkthroughs and play areas. General circulation around the park is step-free, but distances can add up over a full day and some areas become heavily congested around major attractions. Most attraction queues can accommodate a standard wheelchair, while ECV users may need to transfer to a standard wheelchair before entering some queues. Attraction boarding requirements vary considerably, so check the individual attraction pages for detailed transfer, wheelchair access and sensory information.

Getting There & Leaving

How to reach the park, what the arrival actually involves, and what to expect when it’s time to head home.

Your journey to the park The main ways you’ll get from where you’re staying to the park entrance.

Universal hotel → shuttle bus, water taxi or walking route → CityWalk → Islands of Adventure entrance

Driving or rideshare → Universal parking/transport hub → security → CityWalk → Islands of Adventure entrance

Staying On-Site Hotel shuttles, water taxis and walking routes

Universal hotel guests can reach the CityWalk and Islands of Adventure area using complimentary resort transport. Depending on the hotel, options include shuttle buses, accessible water taxis and paved walking routes.

Shuttle buses: Universal resort shuttles use fold-out ramps for wheelchair access and have designated wheelchair spaces onboard. Wheelchair users can remain in their wheelchair in the designated space. ECV users may need to transfer depending on the vehicle and current boarding arrangements, so ask the driver or Team Member if you are unsure.

Water taxis: accessible service operates from Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, Royal Pacific and Sapphire Falls. Ask the Team Member at the dock for assistance with the boarding arrangement for your mobility device.

Walking routes: several Universal hotels connect to CityWalk and the parks by paved paths. Hard Rock Hotel and Royal Pacific are particularly convenient for the original two theme parks, but the amount of walking or rolling should still be considered as part of a long park day.

Driving & Parking Parking costs, accessible parking and the route in

Islands of Adventure uses the same multi-storey Universal Orlando parking garages as Universal Studios Florida and CityWalk at 6000 Universal Boulevard.

Regular self-parking: $35. Prepaid parking is also available through Universal, with the current price shown when booking. Prime parking: $50–$60. RV/bus parking: $45. Prices include tax.

Accessible spaces are available with a valid disability placard or licence plate. Elevators provide the accessible route between levels, and courtesy wheelchairs are available near the first elevator bank on the third floor.

From the garage, guests travel through the main security/transport hub and then through CityWalk before reaching Islands of Adventure. Wheelchairs should use the standard pedestrian path beside the moving walkways rather than the moving walkway itself.

It is worth factoring this approach into the day: arriving at the Universal property is not the same thing as arriving at the park gate.

Rideshare & Off-Site Uber, Lyft, taxis and hotel shuttles

Islands of Adventure shares Universal’s North Parking Garage rideshare and taxi location at 6000 Universal Boulevard.

After drop-off, guests still travel through the pedestrian/security hub and CityWalk before reaching the park entrance.

A standard rideshare vehicle may require a wheelchair user to transfer into the vehicle and store the wheelchair. If the guest needs to remain in their wheelchair, arrange a wheelchair-accessible service rather than relying on a standard car.

Off-site hotel shuttles vary in both schedule and mobility access. Check the vehicle’s boarding arrangement and the final return time before making it your only way back.

Leaving at Night Closing-time crowds, pickups and getting back

From the Islands of Adventure entrance, guests still need to travel through CityWalk to reach the parking garages, rideshare pickup and some resort transport. At closing time this can become a busy and surprisingly long final part of the day.

Wheelchair and ECV users should use the standard pedestrian route beside the moving walkways. If using a Universal hotel shuttle, remember that ECV users need to transfer into shuttle seating.

Water taxis can be a useful alternative for hotels they serve, while guests using rideshare need to return to the North Parking Garage pickup area before meeting their vehicle.

Regular self-parking is normally free after 6pm on eligible nights, but the offer is excluded on Halloween Horror Nights event nights and New Year’s Eve.

If Universal Studios Florida closes significantly later than Islands of Adventure, CityWalk may remain extremely busy with guests from the other park, so a quieter IOA closing time does not necessarily mean an empty route back to the garages.

Accessibility & Planning

Practical information to help you plan your day and know what support and facilities are available around the park.

Guest Services

Guest Services is available on the right-hand side both before and after the park entrance.

The location outside the entrance can help before you enter the park, while another Guest Services location is available just inside Port of Entry on the right.

Guest Services can help with accessibility questions, ticket issues, park information and other day-of-visit assistance. Large-print and Braille copies of the accessibility guide are also available.

Guests who need a queue accommodation should follow the current IBCCES Individual Accessibility Card process before their visit where possible. Guests who only require mobility-device access do not need an IAC simply because they use a wheelchair or ECV.

Mobility & Rentals

Wheelchair and ECV rentals are located on the left shortly after entering the park.

Manual wheelchairs and ECVs are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis near the park entrance. Manual wheelchairs currently cost $15 per day, standard ECVs $75 per day and canopy ECVs $95 per day. A rental contract is required and availability later in the day is not guaranteed.

Most attraction queues and ride vehicles do not accommodate ECVs. At attractions that can accommodate a standard wheelchair, an ECV user may need to transfer to a wheelchair provided at the attraction before entering the queue. If you cannot transfer to a standard wheelchair, speak to an Attractions Attendant before joining the queue.

Guests using their own wheelchair or ECV can use accessible routes throughout the park, but individual attraction requirements still apply.

Quiet & Low-Sensory Spaces

Family Health Services near the front of the park can provide a more controlled place to take a break.

Other areas that may sometimes offer a quieter pause include the lower level of Port of Entry Plaza, the lagoon area near Me Ship, The Olive in Toon Lagoon, quieter parts of Seuss Landing and the waterfront in Marvel Super Hero Island.

These outdoor locations are not designated quiet rooms, and noise, crowds, entertainment and nearby attractions can change throughout the day. If you need a reliably quieter or more controlled environment, speak to Guest Services or a Team Member about the options available during your visit.

First Aid & Medical Support

First Aid is available on the right shortly after entering the park, alongside the Guest Services area in Port of Entry.

First Aid is staffed by registered nurses and professional paramedics. Nursing facilities are available, chilled medication can be stored, and adult changing tables are available.

If you need medical assistance elsewhere in the park, speak to the nearest Team Member rather than making your way back to the entrance unaided.

Basic health and travel essentials are also available from pharmacy-style vending machines at selected locations around the park. These can include pain relief, allergy or motion-sickness medication, blister care, bandages and hygiene products. Locations and stock can change, so ask a Team Member if you need help finding the nearest one.

Lockers & Storage

All-day lockers are available just inside the park entrance, to the left near the wheelchair and stroller rental area. Current rates are $15 per day for a large locker and $20 per day for a family-size locker, with unlimited access throughout the day.

Complimentary standard attraction lockers are available at some rides for the calculated amount of time needed to queue for and experience the attraction. The free period therefore varies with the current wait time rather than being a fixed number of minutes. Larger lockers and lockers at the water rides may require a fee.

Attraction lockers are available at The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Jurassic Park River Adventure, Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls and Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges. VelociCoaster and The Incredible Hulk Coaster also use metal detectors because loose articles are strictly prohibited.

Accessible & Companion Restrooms

Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available in restrooms throughout Islands of Adventure. Companion/family restrooms provide a more private option for guests who need assistance from a companion or caregiver.

Stable family-restroom locations include the front of the park by Health Services/Guest Services and Water Works Authority near the park exit. Health Services in the Lost Continent redevelopment area has also provided a companion restroom, but access and location may change as construction progresses, so check the Universal Orlando app or ask a Team Member before relying on that facility.

Guests who need an adult changing surface can use First Aid, where private facilities and adult changing tables are available.

Jurassic Park

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

Jurassic Park covers a large part of the park, with long step-free routes between attractions, dining and play areas. Distances can add up quickly, particularly when moving between VelociCoaster, Jurassic Park River Adventure and the Discovery Center.

The land includes both busy attraction zones and more open outdoor stretches, so quieter pockets can sometimes be found away from the main entrances. Camp Jurassic and some surrounding areas are more energetic, with play structures, water features and plenty of activity.

Marvel Super Hero Island

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

Marvel Super Hero Island has broad, step-free outdoor routes between its attractions, shops and dining locations. The area around The Incredible Hulk Coaster and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man can become particularly busy, while character appearances can create temporary crowding elsewhere in the land.

The waterfront edge of the land can provide more space and a quieter place to pause away from the main attraction entrances.

Port of Entry

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

Port of Entry is the main route into and out of Islands of Adventure, so it can become heavily congested around park opening and closing. The main guest routes are step-free and relatively broad once you move beyond the entrance.

Family Health Services is near the front of the park, and the lower landing at Port of Entry Plaza can provide a quieter place away from the main flow of guests.

Seuss Landing

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

Seuss Landing is a colourful, lively family area with step-free main guest routes and attractions clustered relatively close together. Music, animated scenery and character activity can make the central sections feel busy even when the pathways themselves are not crowded.

Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous can be a useful place to cool down indoors and step away from the outdoor heat and activity when seating is available. Sneetch Beach can also provide a quieter spot away from the busiest attraction entrances.

Skull Island Reign of Kong

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

Skull Island is a small, heavily themed area between Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park. The main guest route is step-free, but the imposing scenery, darker atmosphere and attraction audio can make it feel more intense than the open areas immediately around it.

Because the land is compact and largely centred around one attraction, moving into either neighbouring area is usually the easiest option if you need more open space or a break from the atmosphere.

The Lost Continent

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

The Lost Continent is currently affected by major construction and demolition, so construction walls, available routes and facilities may change during your visit.

Mythos Restaurant remains a key landmark in the area, but do not rely on older park maps or guides for restroom and access routes here. Check the Universal Orlando app or ask a Team Member if you need a specific facility or the most convenient step-free route.

The lower landing behind Mythos has historically provided a quieter place away from the main pathway, but construction may affect access to this area.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

↑ Back to areas
Practical accessibility

Hogsmeade has step-free guest routes, but its narrow streets and concentration of attractions, shops and dining can make it one of the most congested areas of the park. Crowds can be particularly heavy around Hogwarts Castle, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and the central village.

The land is highly immersive, with music, announcements, themed sound effects and frequent entertainment. For a quieter break, the seating area behind the Three Broomsticks and Hog’s Head, overlooking the lagoon, can be a really useful place to step away from the busiest part of the village.

If Hogsmeade still feels too intense, moving towards Jurassic Park or The Lost Continent generally provides more open space.

Toon Lagoon is a step-free outdoor area with several water-based attractions, so expect wet guests, splash areas and potentially slippery surfaces around some attraction exits.

The lagoon-side area near Me Ship, The Olive can provide a quieter place to step away from the busiest routes. The main pathways are generally open, although crowds can build around Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls.
