Overview

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a large-scale attraction in Galaxy’s Edge that combines multiple ride systems, walk-through sections, live Cast Member interaction and a trackless dark ride into one continuous story.

You begin as a Resistance recruit before boarding a transport ship for a mission that goes badly wrong almost immediately.

After being captured by the First Order, you move through a Star Destroyer, encounter stormtroopers and Kylo Ren, and eventually board an escape vehicle for the final part of the attraction.

The experience includes trackless ride movement, sudden acceleration, small drops, simulator-style effects and large-scale physical sets.

Queue Details

The queue begins outdoors in the Resistance forest before moving through caves and indoor briefing areas.

Wheelchair and ECV users can remain in their own mobility device through the queue and through the early parts of the attraction.

The experience is unusual because the queue effectively becomes part of the attraction itself.

After the initial briefing, guests board a standing transport vehicle. Wheelchair and ECV users can roll directly onto this vehicle and remain in their mobility device.

The transport moves during the scene, but there are no seats for most guests, so standing guests use rails while wheelchair and ECV users remain in position.

After the transport sequence, everyone exits into the First Order Star Destroyer and continues through a walk-through section before reaching the final ride vehicle.

Wheelchair and ECV users can continue through these areas in their mobility device until the actual transfer point.

Transfer Info

Wheelchair and ECV users must transfer completely into the final trackless ride vehicle.

You can remain in your wheelchair or ECV throughout the earlier parts of the attraction, including the first transport vehicle and the walk-through sections. The transfer is only required when you reach the final escape vehicle.

A Transfer Access Vehicle is available to make this boarding process easier.

The accessible vehicle has a side section that opens much wider, allowing your wheelchair to be brought directly alongside the ride seat rather than leaving you to transfer across a normal vehicle wall.

This makes a sideways or sliding transfer possible for some guests.

There is still a small step up into the vehicle, around 6 inches, and you must move completely from your mobility device onto the ride’s bench seat.

The seating is approximately normal chair height rather than being particularly low, with two rows of four seats and an individual seatbelt for each rider.

The ride vehicle remains stationary while you board, so you are not transferring onto a moving platform or moving vehicle.

If physical assistance is needed during the transfer, that assistance needs to come from somebody in your own party.

At the end of the ride, your wheelchair or ECV is brought to the unload area so it can again be positioned close to the vehicle for the return transfer.

Sensory Experience

What do these sensory tags mean?
Backwards Movement
The ride vehicle travels backwards for a noticeable part of the attraction.
Drops
The ride includes noticeable downward drops.
Flashing Lights
Flashing, strobing or rapidly pulsing light effects are used.
Motion Simulator
A moving seat or platform is synchronised with filmed or projected motion.
Sudden Movement
The ride vehicle, seat or platform makes abrupt starts, stops, jolts or changes of direction.
Vibration
Noticeable shaking or vibration is deliberately transmitted through the seat, platform or vehicle.

Sensory experiences vary between people. These tags describe elements that may be present, not how strongly any individual guest will experience them.

Rise of the Resistance includes several very different environments and types of movement, so the sensory experience changes significantly as you progress through it.

The early Resistance areas are relatively calm, although there is dialogue, music and changing lighting.

The transport sequence includes physical movement beneath your feet, loud alarms, sudden sounds and the sensation of the ship being attacked.

The First Order Star Destroyer section is large, brightly lit and visually dramatic, with rows of stormtroopers, Cast Members remaining in character and a more intimidating atmosphere.

The final ride section is considerably more active.

The trackless vehicle moves quickly in several directions, including forwards, backwards and sideways, with sudden acceleration and abrupt turns.

There are loud blaster effects, explosions, flashing lights, alarms and large-scale battle scenes.

At one point the vehicle enters an enclosed escape-pod-style section and experiences a sudden vertical drop.

The drop is brief but much more noticeable than the small changes in level elsewhere in the attraction.

There are also simulator-style moments where physical movement is combined with large projected imagery, which can make the sensation of falling or travelling quickly feel stronger than the actual movement.

The storyline can also feel intense because the attraction is designed to make you feel as though you have genuinely been captured and are trying to escape.

Practical Tips

The accessibility process is unusual because you can remain in your wheelchair or ECV for most of the experience and only transfer for the final ride vehicle.

The first transport is wheelchair and ECV accessible, so there is no need to transfer just to experience that section.

When you eventually reach the final boarding area, your mobility device can be positioned close to the stationary ride vehicle.

If you need the Transfer Access Vehicle, tell a Cast Member before boarding so they can arrange the appropriate loading position.

If sudden drops are a concern, be aware that the final ride includes one short but definite vertical drop.

The attraction also involves a fair amount of movement between different rooms and vehicles, so it can feel much longer and more involved than a conventional single-vehicle ride.

If loud alarms, flashing lights or confrontational character interaction are difficult for you, the First Order sections are the most intense part of the experience.

The Resistance spends years building a secret base, planning an important mission and carefully recruiting new personnel. You manage to get captured approximately five minutes after arriving.
