Overview

Mine-Cart Madness is a family roller coaster in Donkey Kong Country at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, sending you racing through the Golden Temple alongside Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.

The attraction recreates one of the most familiar tricks from the Donkey Kong games: mine carts apparently jumping over gaps in the track.

The actual ride vehicle remains safely supported, but the unusual track system makes it look and feel as though your mine cart is leaping from one broken section of track to another.

There are no inversions, but the ride includes acceleration, sudden drops, sharp changes of direction and deliberately rough, jolting movement designed to feel like an out-of-control mine cart.

Queue Details

The queue takes you through Donkey Kong Country and into the Golden Temple before reaching the loading area.

The approach into Donkey Kong Country is slightly uphill.

The attraction queue is mainly indoors. There are some uphill and downhill slopes near the beginning of the route, but most of the queue is flat once you are inside the temple.

Inside the Golden Temple, you pass murals, statues and other Donkey Kong details before reaching an animatronic scene with Cranky Kong and Squawks the Parrot. They explain that the Tiki Tak Tribe has invaded the temple and set up the story for the ride.

Manual wheelchair users can remain in their wheelchair throughout the accessible queue.

ECVs and other powered mobility devices generally need to be exchanged for a standard manual wheelchair before continuing through the attraction queue, so speak to a Team Member before entering if you use one.

A test seat is available near the attraction entrance if you want to check the seating position and restraint fit before joining the queue.

The exit route has a slight downhill slope.

Transfer Info

Wheelchair users must transfer completely from their wheelchair into the mine cart.

The normal loading area uses a continuously moving walkway alongside the ride vehicles. The walkway can be slowed or stopped if you need additional time to board.

A completely separate stationary loading area is also available just beyond the regular loading platform for guests who need more time or a different transfer setup.

At the stationary station, the mine cart moves sideways away from the main track and comes to a complete stop.

The side of the ride vehicle is then removed and a transfer bench is attached between the wheelchair and the mine-cart seat. This allows you to move sideways across the bench into the ride vehicle rather than transferring directly across the full gap.

Once boarding is complete, the transfer bench is removed, the side of the mine cart is replaced and the vehicle moves sideways back onto the main track before joining the ride.

You still need to transfer completely from your wheelchair into the coaster seat before riding.

If physical lifting or support is required during the transfer, that assistance needs to come from somebody in your own party rather than a Team Member.

Once seated, you sit low inside the mine cart with an individual lap restraint across your thighs.

Your wheelchair remains at the stationary loading area while you ride and is available again when the vehicle returns.

Sensory Experience

What do these sensory tags mean?
Drops
The ride includes noticeable downward drops.
Heights
The experience involves noticeable exposure to height.
Sudden Movement
The ride vehicle, seat or platform makes abrupt starts, stops, jolts or changes of direction.
Vibration
Noticeable shaking or vibration is deliberately transmitted through the seat, platform or vehicle.
Water
Guests may encounter splashes, sprays, mist or other water effects.

Sensory experiences vary between people. These tags describe elements that may be present, not how strongly any individual guest will experience them.

Mine-Cart Madness is sold as a family coaster, but it is noticeably rougher and more physical than its colourful Donkey Kong setting might suggest.

The mine cart accelerates, climbs, drops and changes direction suddenly throughout the ride.

The track system deliberately creates the illusion that the cart is jumping over broken sections of railway. You can see apparent gaps ahead of you before the vehicle seems to leap across them, which can create a stronger sensation of height and falling than the actual coaster layout alone.

The ride includes repeated jolts and abrupt movements. Some transitions feel intentionally uneven, as though the mine cart is bouncing around on damaged track.

There are also sudden drops, including sections where the cart appears to leave the track completely.

Some parts of the ride use water and mist effects, so you may feel light spray.

The attraction combines outdoor sections with darker indoor environments, and the scenery can pass quite close to the vehicle during faster moments.

There is music, character dialogue and loud ride sound effects throughout.

The whole coaster experience is relatively short — around two minutes — but there is very little downtime once the main ride begins.

Practical Tips

If you have a Power-Up Band, don’t treat Donkey Kong Country as somewhere to rush through on the way to Mine-Cart Madness.

Around the land there are interactive elements you can trigger with the band, including the Rambi rhythm activity, where guests work together on the drums and can make Rambi the Rhino appear when the sequence is completed successfully.

There are also other Power-Up Band interactions and hidden collectables around Donkey Kong Country, so it is worth exploring the paths and scenery rather than heading straight for the ride entrance.

In the Mine-Cart Madness queue itself, use your Power-Up Band at the interactive point that can make the Golden Banana light up.

Donkey Kong Country also has one of the better character encounters in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, with Donkey Kong meeting guests at his treehouse area.

The queue soundtrack is enthusiastic. On a long wait, you may discover exactly how much enthusiasm one human being can absorb.

Donkey Kong has apparently looked at the concept of maintaining railway infrastructure and decided that jumping over the missing bits is more efficient.
